I hate the word cheap. It conjures up all the wrong ideas of what a service is, and what a service might be. The word 'cheap' is synonymous with getting an under-par service. So if you look for cheap estate agents, then you sort of expect the service to be less than you might get if you paid a high estate agency fee. But 'cheap', can still mean 'good'.
We have been called cheap estate agents in the past due to the estate agency fees that we charge, which are just a few hundred pounds! But I’ve always encouraged staff and customers alike to avoid the word cheap because it does suggest that our service is also cheap, which couldn't be further from the truth.
In essence, we are cheap compared to other estate agents fees when you compare the amount of money that we charge to sell a house. A typical high street estate agents fee will be anything from 1% of the sale price of the home, up to 2% of the sale price of the home (and don't forget the 20% VAT!). So it could be a significant amount of money that you're shelling out when selling your house. If you're selling a house at £300,000 and the estate agent fee is 1.5%+VAT, then you'll be paying out £5,400 in fees to the estate agent. That is quite a significant sum of money. At Hatched, our estate agency fee is less than £500, to sell a house of any size, in any location, so I suppose that ‘cheap’ when compared to the above estate agents fees.
But you have to look at what you get for that estate agency fee. Because if by ‘cheap estate agents’, you are expecting a 'cheap estate agency service’, then you couldn't be further from the truth with Hatched.
For our 'cheap' estate agents fee, we offer:

All we've done at Hatched, is simply strip out all the unnecessary costs of an office, as well as cutting out advertising in newspaper adverts (which don't sell houses nowadays anyway) and we’ve centralised our operations to one location. All of this saves us money, which allows us to pass on these savings to the customer. It certainly doesn't cheapen our service, although we are still 'cheap estate agents'.
So when you think of the word cheap, and especially cheap estate agents, don't always think that the service you're going to receive is going to be cheap as well, because at Hatched.co.uk, it is anything but 'cheap'!
