After last weekend's email asking for nominations for us to sponsor, we had an unbelievable response! Amazing, in fact... If you didn't see the article, then here it is - Support The Person, Who Supports The Charity.
Incredibly, we had just shy of 400 nominations - yes, nearly FOUR HUNDRED! We were completely overwhelmed with the nominations and also overwhelmed by the generosity of people, donating their time & money for causes they truly believe in.
If you are one of those people doing something to raise money for the charity you believe in, I just wanted to say, I am truly in awe of you.
We have all suffered ills in our lives - either personally, or people very close to us, and we therefore naturally have charities that are very close to our hearts - I have a couple that are close to my heart, but as we said in the last blog, we didn't want to support just one charity. We wanted to support you, the people who donate to the charities.
I'm sure the charity that is close to my heart will be supported by someone that Hatched supports at some point in the future. But just because my charity is important to me, it doesn't make it any more worthy than all the other wonderful charities out there. Which is exactly why we decided to try and think of something a little bit different. We hope we have been able to do that...
So, anyway, on to the person who's name was pulled at random from those nearly 400 people: For the month of June 2014, Hatched.co.uk will be supporting Jean Wilson who is walking 10 miles for a local disabled children's charity. And what a great way to start the campaign for us!
What Hatched will do, is for every new property we place on the market in the month of June 2014, we will donate £1 to Jean's 10 mile walk. Not only that, but we will also feature Jean on the front page of our website, so that visitors to our site can donate themselves, at random. As we've never done this before, we have no idea what sort of response this will get, but we will keep our eyes on it. And so will Jean!
I spoke to Jean on Friday evening to reveal that she had been chosen and she was delighted. I asked her to write a short piece about why she supports this particular charity. Here is what she said:
"I'm walking for New Hope to raise money to enable disabled children to access their local community in the school holidays and on Saturdays. The children are aged between 6 years and 19 years old.
The money will go towards funding trips to places like Legoland, Cotswold Beach and a visit to the circus. Other trips are horse riding swimming and bowling. I hope to raise enough money money to help with transport costs as well.
As a parent of a disabled child myself i know how invaluable New Hope's work is. Whilst my daughter enjoys activities like any other child I can receive breaks from my caring responsibilities which is such a huge help.
This walk is a huge challenge for me personally as until I started training my idea of exercise was walking from my front door to my car door! But I'm now fit and ready for my walk knowing any money I raise goes a little way to helping out many disabled children and their parents.
The walk is 10 miles from the Diglis Hotel in Worcester to St Andrews Town Hotel in Droitwich using the canal path. I hope people will help me to help all the children who attend New Hope in Worcester."
So there you have it; Jean is the first person that we are sponsoring - please do check out Jean's JustGiving page and make a donation, You can do so, by clicking here - Jean's Page.
Thank you once again for your nominations, and I look forward to Hatched.co.uk being able to make significant contributions over the coming months!
